Huawei’s HarmonyOS Next to introduce a feature similar to Apple’s Super Resolution

Huawei’s HarmonyOS Next introduces a feature similar to Apple’s Super Resolution. It initially renders a low-resolution image using the GPU and then leverages NPU processing power to upscale it to a higher resolution, significantly reducing GPU power consumption and load.

While some Android vendors have developed GPU chips, they merely interpolate frames and suffer from physical distance and latency issues compared to SoCs.

Additionally, features like Super Resolution require ecosystem appeal, necessitating game developers’ adaptation. HarmonyOS Next appears to have already begun collaborating and testing with game suppliers.
