Huawei Retains Top Spot in China’s Passive Optical LAN Market for Fifth Consecutive Year as Copper Cables Are Phased Out

According to Huawei’s official website, the latest IDC report titled “China POL Market Tracking Report, 2023H2” reveals that Huawei ranked first in China’s POL (Passive Optical LAN) market share in 2023. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Huawei has led in this market.

With the ongoing “fiber over copper” initiative gradually phasing out copper cable networks, national policies have also increased guidance and support for the construction of all-optical networks. IDC forecasts that the Chinese POL market will grow by 13.1% in 2024, reaching a market capacity of 2.03 billion yuan. Over the next five years, the compound annual growth rate is expected to be 14.5%, with the market size projected to reach 3.53 billion yuan by 2028.

Huawei has stated that its F5G (Fiber to the x) all-optical campus solutions have been deployed by over 8,000 commercial customers worldwide. In 2023, Huawei launched the new F5G all-optical campus 2.0 solution and a series of flagship optical terminal products. Based on POL technology, these solutions enable fiber to be extended to rooms, desks, APs, and cameras, achieving unified carrier capabilities for all types of services on a single optical fiber. The use of passive ODN (Optical Distribution Network) enhances reliability and supports future-proof scalability and flexible evolution.
